Kunstwegen

The Kunstwegen route can be enjoyed free of charge at any time. Choose your own starting point, decide how long you want each stage to be, and let art and landscape do the rest. In this way, Kunstwegen offers maximum freedom and flexibility.

It is easy to plan your own route using the interactive route map. Along the route, you will find several special cultural hotspots that we believe are well worth a visit.

Kunstwegen is very easy to explore by bicycle. The Vechtdalroute, formerly known as the LF16 route, is a national long-distance cycling route. This varied 245-kilometre route follows the Overijsselse Vecht, from Zwolle, near the mouth of the river, to Darfeld in Germany, near the source of the Vecht.

You can cycle Kunstwegen in both directions. As you ride, you follow the course of the Vecht. The cycling route is well signposted. At key points, LF signs indicate the direction. A free cycling map is also available from Museum de Fundatie in Zwolle and Heino.

In addition to exploring the route by bicycle or on foot, you can also discover it by motorbike or car. There are also connections to NS railway stations throughout the route, where you will find quite a few of the artworks too.

The route to the artworks themselves is indicated by separate signs. On foot, you can walk stages from one NS railway station to the next along the Zwolle–Dalfsen–Ommen–Mariënberg–Hardenberg–Gramsbergen line, following the white-and-blue waymarkers.

The artworks were created especially for their locations and designed by international artists. Each work was carefully chosen to connect with its surroundings, often after extensive research into the history, nature and culture of the area. The result is a route that is not only visually impressive, but also deeply connected to the regions in which it is located.

Along the route, you will find several so-called “information points”: places where you can find more information, ask for advice about Kunstwegen, or learn more about the region’s cultural history.
