Meet the artist: ONUR

For his mural in the bicycle tunnel along the Hessenweg, ONUR was inspired by the landscapes of IJsselschilder Jan Voerman and the portraits of Isaac Israëls from the collection of Museum de Fundatie. The result is a tunnel that envelops the cyclist in an infinite circle of impressionist painting."

ONUR originally comes from Switzerland and has Turkish roots. He lives and works in Berlin. Alongside smaller works on canvas, the artist continues to create large-scale murals, which have made him known worldwide. His works can be seen in Europe, the United States and across the globe. The murals stand out for their powerful visual presence, visible from afar.

The murals ONUR created for Museum Murals refer to landscapes by IJssel painter Jan Voerman. ONUR also looked at the portraits by Isaac Israels from the collection of Museum de Fundatie. Drawing on this inspiration, and with the experience of cyclists in mind, ONUR has transformed the tunnel into an endless circle of painting.
